History

Avenger Sailing is a non-profit organization that provides access to high school sailing in East Greenwich, RI.  The team was founded circa 1996 as a student-run club. Around 1999, the team hired our first coach, Neil Marcaccio (current MTSS Director for EGSD) and in 2011 we became an official 501(c)3 non-profit so we could own a fleet of boats and donate their use to he team.  We are members of the Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) and compete in the New England district (New England Schools Sailing Association – NESSA).  Most of our regattas are in Rhode Island, although some are in southeastern Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Our Mission

• To sponsor and support students learning to sail safely and competitively in ISSA/NESSA sponsored regattas.
• To facilitate the development of sailing skills including an applied knowledge of rules and ethics of sailboat racing, sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership.
• To foster a lifelong interest in and appreciation for sailing.
